Screen protectors: protectors or pieces of junk?

When you buy a beautiful handheld, most of you would like to keep it safe and clean. So did I, so I went to buy some screen protection for my new Nintendo DS. In the package there were 2 screen protectors and a microfiber tissue. The manual was in Japanese, so a little bit hard to understand initially, but I knew my consoles… and luckily there were pictures on the package which told me how to use the screen protector.

The microfiber was the worst of all; my screen got even more dust then before. Because of that, when I put the screen protector on the screen, I couldn’t see a thing because of the dust under the protection. From what I heard from many people who also used it, the protectors were irremovable and that way my DS felt like no more then a piece of garbage for me. In my opinion, a screen protector must be removable in all times, so irremovable ones shouldn’t be sold at all! Luckily it WAS removable, so I removed it immediately and threw them away. The microfiber came in handy here though, because the dirty spots the protector left on my screens could be removed easily with it.

Let’s move to the point: do they really protect your screens? Well, they do actually. It will catch all the scratches and your screens will stay like they were. This doesn’t mean they are handy though. As I said, the protectors will catch all the scratches and will be damaged themselves. When the protectors are harmed very badly, you can’t see a thing of your DS. And if you are unlucky enough to have irremovable ones, they will damage your screens too if you do try to remove these pests! The screen protectors who can removed easily are better to use (for example: the protectors of Gamemate), because when they are too damaged to see through, at least you won’t harm any of your screens. But there is the problem with the dust again. Screen protectors which can be easily removed are stickier and thus will attract much more dust. In that way, you can’t see a thing of your screens even before your protector is too scratched.

So what’s the point in buying protectors? Well, actually they are only useful if you are handy enough that you are able to place them like a professional carpenter. If you want to protect your screen without hiring a professional though, there is only one thing you can do. Just treat your DS like gold and use your touch screen only when necessary. It shouldn’t be that hard to be gentle with someone you love?
