In a long-awaited turn of events at this year’s GamesCom, the company behind Playstation announced it’s new form factor for the Playstation 3, and with it came a new, much cheaper, €299 price tag.

A few months later, and I think it’s safe to say that Sony did the right thing, with unit sales numbers to back that up. With sales skyrocketing to as much as 1000% up in some territories, selling more units than the Wii and 360 In The US, UK, Japan, and Australia. Sony even announced that sales of the new PS3 slim passed 1 million in its first three weeks in the shops, and I don’t know about you, but for the PS3, that sounds impressive! It looks like the PS3 is finally gaining some market share, something Sony didn’t care a whole lot about in the past, judging by their comments, but should definitely attract developers to the platform, which is now finally starting to grow a large installed-base with game-hungry players.

And who can blame them? With the amazing Uncharted 2 recently released, LittleBigPlanet , Killszone 2, and Metal Gear Solid 4 in the budget bins, and MAG, two Final Fantasy titles, ModNation Racers, God of War 3, and others still coming, there is definitely something there for a everyone. Not to mention the upcoming Sony Wiimote, and with rumors of developers looking to port Wii titles to the PS3 once the device launches, it’s clear that the future of the PS3 looks like it’s going to be a bright one.
