The purpose was to reduce the risk of having gamers go violent and avoid high-school shooting incidents, something which has happened recently. The killer supposedly was a fanatic gamer, but gamers from all over germany have taken a stand against the proposed ban. A formal petition has also been created, and if it were to be signed by 50000 people then there will be a hearing at which they can defend their cause. To nobodies surprise, the petition has reached well over the required amount (52105 currently) within a period of only a week and a half.
