Slow news day, today

Last week it was a really slow news week. And it seems to get slower by the day. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. We think that the gaming industry is preparing for the upcoming holiday season. So we hope we can start reporting news again soon, but this means there is not a lot of news for us to report, sadly. Read more
3D gaming: probably doomed

Have you ever seen people wearing silly-looking glasses while watching a movie? Ever wondered what the deal was with those? Well, even if you haven’t, I’ll explain it anyway. They are watching what some people call a 3D movie. It works simply by letting one eye see the image from one camera angle, and the other eye sees the same scene from a slightly offset camera angle, creating a stereo image for your eyes. Through this process, the viewer is given the illusion that he sees the movie in 3D. Read more
The Life of a Game Development Student

Since I’ve started studying game development my life has been much more hectic and stressful and my free time has been reduced to roughly non-existent. Now, I can’t tell you what life is like for every student studying game development because obviously I have no idea how other people live, but what I can illustrate for you is what daily life is like for me and my fellow classmates, from what I observe around the school building.

Well, I assume (from many encounters with many different ignorant people) that many imagine studying game Read more
Blurring the Lines: Modern Warfare 2

As most of you are aware, footage has been leaked of the terrorist segment in COD: Modern Warfare 2. The obvious reaction has been the firestorm that has erupted over the violence content within video games. At this point, I’m not sure whether I should be disturbed by this, or if this is a brilliant move on the part of Infinity Ward. There are a few ways to look at this: The obvious one is that this is your shock and awe for the sake of shock and awe. The second is that this simply fulfills the violence porn that propagates within the industry. But, the third is that this could in fact be rife with social commentary. I want to think that this challenges the player in a different way.

Gaming lifestyle: OC Remix remixes Xenogears music.

When Yasunori Mitsuda composed the music of Xenogears he would never guessed that the soundtrack would be remixed by OC Remix but we are sure he will love what OC has done with it.

Yasunori Mitsuda (1972-) is a Japanese video game music composer, sound programmer and musician. He is best known for his work with composing video games such as Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Shadow Hearts, Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Xenogears, Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, and Mario Party.

“With Xenogears, I wanted to bring in some aspect of music that no composers had really dealt with before. I’m a really big fan of the singer Joanne Hogg from the band called Iona, from Ireland, and I really tried to bring a lot of Ireland into the Xenogears setting”
Now if your wondering how it all sounds like just head over to the special OC remix site ->here<-
HSN teaches every one a valuable lesson about Wii accessory

We were certain — absolutely certain — that the epidemic of fractured television screens which cropped up with the release of the Wii had passed. Everyone’s heard the horror stories, seen the blackened eyes and witnessed the ruined electronics, we thought. Everyone now knows the methods of avoiding Wiimote accidents during their exuberant Wii Sports bouts, we thought. The Home Shopping Network recently proved the inaccuracy of this observation.

From left to right: the guy holding their fabulous unnecessary controller attachment playing on a pretty 52″ plasma screen. In part 2 the same guy without the unnecessary controller attachment that magically broke the pretty 52″ plasma screen.
The hilarity unfolds in the video after 5:03 minutes. While some might grimace at the fate of the poor television featured in the video, remember that they’re charging $330 for a Wii and 15 completely unnecessary controller attachments. that means the unnecessary controller attachments alone will cost you a whooping $130. Call it an accident, if you’d like — we call it Karma in action.

1974 Gaming: Discover our talent.

Okay, it’s that time again. We’ve been gaming for a long time now and we’ve seen things come and go. For sure we’ve seen the arcades come and go, seen the split up between the videogame consoles and the computer games. We’ve also seen platform games go 3D and adventure games go online. And now I even seen games go double screened and reacting on voice command. (I really like that.) So now we got reality graphics, voiced controlled dog poo running on our 50 inch plasma screens in high definition 3d sound.Great, just what I didn’t need. It looks like there isn’t much inspiration left with the developers. But hey all they ask is educated people, people who are top 3D programmers and high rank programmers. But are they still looking for true talent? Nope. nothing for talent. I guess there forgetting how some top guns started in the games industry. Not because there highly qualified scholars. Nope. They had talent. You know talent is rare to find but good diplomas are easier to find. And there is where it has gone terribly wrong. Read more
Xbox Live has trouble fighting PC cheaters and pirates
October 14, 2009 by Maikel De Bakker

Xbox cross platform games are starting the sting of the cheating and pirating PC players and modded 360 Players.
During a period of 3 weeks a big group of players has been filing complaints on Xbox live about people cheating and even owning pirated games. PC players that don’t seem to be offline with silver accounts while you play with them, PC players that have infinite life ammo or other skills and PC players that have all the games along with all the achievements. We already have heard of groups of players that file complaints on these players on daily bases without success. So we called the developers of the games and Microsoft and this is what they had to say:
The Developer:
For some time now we are aware of people that pirate games on their PC also integrated some cheats in the game. We are also aware that this is a big problem to our community and the health of the game online. But we can only do so much on our servers, but we can’t ban players from playing the game even if its pirated or cheated. For that you need to be with Microsoft.
And so we did: Microsoft,
Sorry sir the only thing we can ask you is to file a complaint on the dashboard by selecting the person who is using the cheat. Our system will automatically pick out the complaints and freeze the user. you might want to try the developer since they own the servers.
NiSuTe:
We already have people telling us that they filed multiple complaints on certain users for the past few weeks without any result what so ever. How can you explain this? And we already talked to several developers and they cant ban players since that is up to Microsoft and not to them.
Microsoft:
Like we said our system should pick them out and freeze their accounts. We cant ban people manually.
NiSuTe:
Then it seems that these pirates know how to beat this system. It is strange that these players play online on silver accounts while they show as offline isn’t it.
Microsoft:
That it is. The only thing we can do now is make a note here and maybe you could go to the Microsoft’s forum and tell the admins there what is going on. since they are more likely to be in tough with Microsoft Xbox live team than we are.
NiSuTe:
So there is nothing you can do about it? Can’t you atleast tell us if that there is something showing or being worked on to solve this problem?
Microsoft:
No. Sorry.
