Last week it was a really slow news week. And it seems to get slower by the day. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. We think that the gaming industry is preparing for the upcoming holiday season. So we hope we can start reporting news again soon, but this means there is not a lot of news for us to report, sadly. Read more

How online gaming can destroy the videogame consoles.

Video games have always set them apart from computer games although not many people know the difference. Ok so you want to know the difference. Well here we go. It is quite simple in fact. Computer games are played on a personal computer or notebook/laptop these games are single player games that can often be played online with other players there, for it often are secondary multiplayer games. This means that you are not playing with 2 or more friends on one personal computer or notebook/laptop but everyone is at their home playing the game alone but sharing it online with their online friends. While Video games are played alone, not online and with several friends on that same console. Also Video games used to be less in to the graphical games but more in to the game play experience. But this all changed a few years ago when game consoles started to go online. Making the gap between video games and computer games closer and closer. Read more

3D gaming: probably doomed

Have you ever seen people wearing silly-looking glasses while watching a movie? Ever wondered what the deal was with those? Well, even if you haven’t, I’ll explain it anyway. They are watching what some people call a 3D movie. It works simply by letting one eye see the image from one camera angle, and the other eye sees the same scene from a slightly offset camera angle, creating a stereo image for your eyes. Through this process, the viewer is given the illusion that he sees the movie in 3D. Read more

The Life of a Game Development Student

Since I’ve started studying game development my life has been much more hectic and stressful and my free time has been reduced to roughly non-existent.  Now, I can’t tell you what life is like for every student studying game development because obviously I have no idea how other people live, but what I can illustrate for you is what daily life is like for me and my fellow classmates, from what I observe around the school building.

Well, I assume (from many encounters with many different ignorant people) that many imagine studying game Read more

Blurring the Lines: Modern Warfare 2

As most of you are aware, footage has been leaked of the terrorist segment in COD: Modern Warfare 2.  The obvious reaction has been the firestorm that has erupted over the violence content within video games.  At this point, I’m not sure whether I should be disturbed by this, or if this is a brilliant move on the part of Infinity Ward. There are a few ways to look at this: The obvious one is that this is your shock and awe for the sake of shock and awe. The second is that this simply fulfills the violence porn that propagates within the industry. But, the third is that this could in fact be rife with social commentary. I want to think that this challenges the player in a different way.

When Yasunori Mitsuda composed the music of Xenogears he would never guessed that the soundtrack would be remixed by OC Remix but we are sure he will love what OC  has done with it.

Yasunori Mitsuda (1972-) is a Japanese video game music composer, sound programmer and musician. He is best known for his work with composing video games such as Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Shadow Hearts, Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Xenogears, Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, and Mario Party.

“With Xenogears, I wanted to bring in some aspect of music that no composers had really dealt with before. I’m a really big fan of the singer Joanne Hogg from the band called Iona, from Ireland, and I really tried to bring a lot of Ireland into the Xenogears setting”

Now if your wondering how it all sounds like just head over to the special OC remix site ->here<-

HSN teaches every one a valuable lesson about Wii accessory

We were certain — absolutely certain — that the epidemic of fractured television screens which cropped up with the release of the Wii had passed. Everyone’s heard the horror stories, seen the blackened eyes and witnessed the ruined electronics, we thought. Everyone now knows the methods of avoiding Wiimote accidents during their exuberant Wii Sports bouts, we thought. The Home Shopping Network recently proved the inaccuracy of this observation.

From left to right: the guy holding their fabulous unnecessary controller attachment playing on a pretty 52″ plasma screen. In part 2 the same guy without the unnecessary controller attachment that magically broke the pretty 52″ plasma screen.

The hilarity unfolds in the video after 5:03 minutes. While some might grimace at the fate of the poor television featured in the video, remember that they’re charging $330 for a Wii and 15 completely unnecessary controller attachments.  that means the unnecessary controller attachments alone will cost you a whooping $130.  Call it an accident, if you’d like — we call it Karma in action.
