Developer Arenanet announced the MMO Guild Wars 2 officially on the Gamescom floor in Cologne. Even though it was in the air for quite some time, the word is finally, officially out. Release is as of yet unknown.

In Guild Wars 2 players will take on Zhaitan, a gigantic dragon that awoke from a long slumber a the bottom of the ocean. Appearantly napping that long made him angry, because he is trying to rise the fallen city Orr and use it’s army of the Undead to wipe out all the five races.

Like Guild Wars 1, part 2 does not require a monthly fee to play. Unfortunately it won’t be possible to use your GW1 character in GW2. The reason behind this is the technology behind the game and the addition of the new races. A new addition that has been revealed is the Hall of Monuments, through which players will be rewarded for their in-game achievements. How this will work out will be explained at a later date.
