Street Fighter X Tekken Event: Ono VS Harada! FIGHT!

After their first clash at the San Diego Comic Con this year, the rivalry between Yoshinoro Ono (Street Fighter) and Katsuhiro Harada (Tekken) reached a new height with their spectacular rematch at Gamescom 2010. True, what the audience got to see wasn’t really a rematch but in fact the European Street Fighter X Tekken premiere. Capcom, Namco and Gamescom celebrated their cooperation with a show that generated enthusiasm among the hundreds of fans present.

Attending fans were encouraged to take sides and support their favorite franchise with corresponding t-shirt: the Blue Street Fighter crowd on the left and on the right side the Tekken fans wearing red. Capcom Community Manager Seth Killian received a warm welcome and after showing Cologne the newteaser trailer, kicked off the spectacle by summoning both Ryu and Kazuya (both impersonated by gifted martial artists or stuntmen) to the stage. Under the crowd’s cheers of enthusiasm, the two engaged in an spectacular show of choreography. When it seemed the fight was decided, it was interrupted by the hilarious entrance of Ono. Dressed in a ridiculous Chun Li outfit, the producer of Street Fighter 4 wondered where his arch-rival would be. The crowd roared with laughter as Harada appeared on screen, sipping from his wine and enjoying the company of two young women dressed as Chun Li and Nina. As a flabbergasted Ono looked on, Killian summoned Harada to the stage. When both producers saw eye to eye, taunts flew back and forth, always under heavy cheering from the support and equally heavy booing from the opposite side.  It was clear Capcom and Namco tried their best to deliver a good show with lots of audience participation.

The staged rematch was in fact a short gameplay demo showing off Street Fighter X Tekken. The game clearly makes use of the Street Fighter 4 engine. The gameplay presentation was short but gave a good impression of what the Tekken characters would look like in this art style, and showed how their fighting styles translated to the Street Fighter system. After Capcom releases Street Fighter X Tekken, Namco will follow suit by releasing their own version, Tekken X Street Fighter. Harada explained development was in such an early stage that no actual gameplay or images could be shown, but did present the audience with a sample of how Ryu would look using Tekken’s visual style. After some more jokes and martial art demonstrations the show came to an end and Seth Killian announced the start of an on site tournament. Those who couldn’t get enough from the fighting were invited to stay and attend the ensuing Street Fighter and Tekken tournaments.

Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds hands-on

August 25, 2010 by Daniel van Leeuwen

Last year, most of the oldschool hardcore fighting games made their revival with titles like Tekken 6, King of Fighters 12 and Street Fighter 9. This year, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Super Street Fighter 9 and Blazblue were added to that list.

By now, it’s has been almost 10 years since we have seen an iteration of the critically acclaimed Marvel vs Capcom series, so it surprised none when the sequel, Marvel Vs Capcom 3 was announced for release next year.
This past GamesCom, we had the opportunity to try out the next step in the Marvel Vs Capcom legacy with our own hands.

For those who don’t know Marvel vs Capcom, it is a sidescroller Fighting game with characters from both Marvel and Capcom that fight against each other. The previous game (Marvel Vs. Capcom 2) is still very popular and was played by millions. Because the previous game was so incredibly well received, making a sequel that is even better is no easy task, but it seems like the developers are on the right track.

In Marvel vs. Capcom 2 you had 56 playable characters to choose from. However, there were some complaints that some characters felt unbalanced. Some even seemed useless, and overall very un-balanced. Some characters had suspiciously similar play-styles to others. This time around, Capcom announced that they didn’t want to include 56 characters, but instead go for a total of around 20 to 30. This to ensure each character’s uniqueness, striving for a balanced lineup overall.

A lot of new characters will be introduced In Marvel vs Capcom 3, and so far, 16 characters have been announced. The Capcom characters include: Danta, Felicia, Ryu, Morrigan, Chris redfield, Trish, Chun-Li and Amaterasu. It seems that Capcom has taken characters from all of their franchises, instead of just looking at Street Fighter. This is a very nice move of CapComs’ and brings some well-deserved variety. On the opposing side, we have Marvel with the more standard lineup, including Captain America, Iron man, Deadpool, Hulk, Wolverine, Thor, Doctor Doom and Super-Skrull.

The game looks pretty cool and as we’re used to from Marvel vs Capcom games, all the attacks and combo’s are rendered in all their colorful special-effect glory. From our preview, we’d say that the developers tried to combine all of the good points from both Super Street Fighter IV, and Tastuko vs Capcom, kept it close to the roots of Marvel vs Capcom, and succeeded. If you’re a fan of fighting games then will definetely be on your must-buy list when released somewhere next year for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

5# Half-Life

Well, this is the game I referred to when I was talking about Halo and Baldur’s Gate. I remember it was hard dividing my time between the awesomeness that was Baldur’s Gate and this magnificent shooter. This shooter revolutionized the shooter genre, by adding a different way of story telling. Clever opponents were also a part of Half-Life and the multiplayer was a load of fun.

The story starts of with Gordon Freeman, working as a mere scientist at the Black Mesa organization. He works on an experiment, which unfortunately goes very wrong. Portals are opened and aliens make their way into our world. Gordon fights for not only his survival, but also of his fellow teammates. The army eventually comes in, assuming to help clear the aliens out.. but that too isn’t the case. Read more

10# World of Warcraft

I started my World of Warcraft journey on day one. My little brother and I got the game (the limited edition) and we were very eager to see if the World of Warcraft was all that we expected from it. After years of waiting (you know how long Blizzard takes with their games), we finally got the chance to play the game.

Seeing as we were both playing on one account (yeah I know, Blizzard doesn’t really like that.. but I wanted to see what the game was all about before getting it myself) it sometimes could get quite difficult to divide playing time. Seeing as WoW takes up a lot of time, a 2 hour play session isn’t really that long, so it didn’t take long before we didn’t play the game anymore. Not because we didn’t like it, not at all, we both loved the game.. but it just isn’t possible to both play on one account. Seeing as I didn’t have the money to both pay for subscription and the game itself, we didn’t play for about a half year.

Funny thing is, before the game was even launched, my brother and I both wrote down our characters background stories. Odd actually, seeing as we both never even role played (RP) before. I thought about this one day and when I suddenly stumbled on the WoW webpage and found out there was a new RP-PVP server announced. It was the server that kept me in it’s grasp for over four years. The name of the server: Defias Brotherhood. Read more

18. Jedi Knight

17. Soul Caliber

16. FreeSpace

Interested to see what the next five games in my list are? Well, you can check them out right here. We start off at 15#!

15# Pokémon

These games absorb a lot, and I mean A LOT, of your time. I started my journey with Pokémon Blue, around the time that Pokémon was a huge hit in not only our country, but in the entire world.

I remember me and my little brother getting these games for Sinterklaas (Something like Christmas, you get presents and such). My father already bought these games early on, but he always lets us test the games to see if it works and if we like it. Heck, we liked it so much, we secretly started playing each time my parents weren’t home. By the time we really did get the presents, we already nearly finished the game! We even bought another Gameboy so we could play together.

After a year or so, Pokémon Stadium got released on the Nintendo 64. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen in videogames. The ability to see your own trained Pokémon in full 3D, that was so awesome. Read more

Jean’s Top 20 Of All Time

I saw a video on the website of Cinemassacre recently, which showed the Top-20 of his favourite movies. Personally, I would find it really hard to make a list like that, but then I started to ponder: “What would my Top-20 of videogames look like?”. So I wrote down a list of games that made some sort of impact on me.

Remember, this is my list, so be gentle! The first one the list is…

20# Street Fighter

Oh, how much I have played the Street Fighter games, especially Street Fighter II on the SNES. I fired it up on my SNES a while back, and it’s just as much fun as it was years ago. The graphics, sound track, the action.. it all rocked! Street Fighter II was a real innovation back then.

As a kid, I really had a hard time with the last couple matches. The fights against the boxer Balrog, the drama queen Vega, the tall Sagat and the unbeatable M. Bison were really hard for me as a kid. Bison in particular was nearly impossible for me to take down. Fortunately, whenever I did take him down.. it gave me a proud feeling. I was so proud of myself on taking him down, it was awesome.

Super Street Fighter 4, worth it’s weight in gold?

I’m writing this article with the idea that you own SF4 and cannot decide if SSF4 is for you, but before getting down to business I’ll introduce myself.
The name is Johnny and I have been playing SF since SF2:world warrior. I love the thrill of battle and meeting my match ^_^ Played Turbo, Alpha 3 and SF3:3rd Strike and once SF4 was announced I couldn’t wait to insert it into my PS3. It was a major improvement over 3rd strike and even though I missed the hand drawn charm I got over it very quickly.

MTV Multiplayer reports that Super Street fighter IV has a release date of March 23rd 2010. They got the info from gamestop.

From their Page:

“Now that “Super Street Fighter 4″ is officially an independent release, GameStop appears to have clarified the game’s price and shipping date, which represents an ultra-quick follow-up on the calendar compared to this year’s implicitly less super “Street Fighter 4.” The disc comes tagged with a $39.99 price point for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, matching the current MSRP for its predecessor, and the retailer’s site claims it will ship on March 23, 2010.”
